Posted: November 12, 2018 Filed under: 01. Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership Leave a commentNew in my classroom this year:
- Added specific Matariki posters to the windows and door.
- Greeted my students in Maori all week.
- Promoted discussions about celebrating Matariki with all students.
Generally:
- Take an interest in my Maori and Pasifika students. Find out what languages they speak. Try to greet them in their own languages.
- Engage my year 7 and 8 students in comparing languages to Spanish eg Maori greetings, colours and ‘how are you?’
Next steps:
- Use the Maori app more to learn vocabulary.
- Will follow Maori course at Marae in 2019.
- Talk to colleagues who have recently completed an online Maori course.

I started adding posts every week, but could not keep it up as it got too much, however, later in the course we were required to post weekly about specific topics and all mine are here and visible. It is always interesting to receive comments from other educators, so feel free to join a discussion!
